Addiction is an illness that can take many forms and can lead to self destructive behavior by the addict and can cause chaos for the family and friends of the people living with the addict. I often get asked about how to handle a friend or relative that is dealing with an addiction. The advice that I usually start with is that one needs to take care of themself first. If you are involved in a relationship and think the person you love should get counseling, I say first seek counseling for yourself. Lead by example. If the person never does get help, which in the end you have no control over, at least you are taking care of yourself and hopefully gain some insight about your own life.

Intervention service.

I am currently working at Franklin Family Practice with Joan Hasper (Licensed Professional Coounselor). Joan and I believe that often times when someone is in the middle of an addiction they are unable to ask for the specific help they need. When an addict gets help it is usually because of some form of crisis materializes in their life. Often time an intervention can help a person get the help they need before a major legal, financial or family crisis occurs. Franklin Family Services offers this service to any family member who is is desperate need of professional support but is unsure how to get their loved one to a safe supportive environment.

Introduction

I am happy to see you took the time to visit my site. I am a therapist at Franklin Family Services in St. Louis Park. I will sit down with any person who has an issue they would like to discuss. Sometimes just talking through an issue can lead a person to the answer they have been looking for. Often times when someone is stuck on an issue, or feel trapped, afraid or unsure it is associated with an addiction. I am trained to help a person develop tools for working with an addiction. I also can help an individual who is in a relationship with a person who is struggling with an addiction.

Treating an addiction to alcohol, gambling, work, shopping, internet, golf or whatever the compulsive behavior is what I specialize in. I have worked in traditional treatment setting, with the chemically dependent and mentally ill, at a methadone clinic and with the chronic and persistent mentally ill. If you are feeling stuck about an issue please email me at this site. If there is an issue that you have never been able to share with anyone, an event that still makes you feel shame, guilt or remorse, I believe that is why you visited this site and now is the time to deal with that issue.

I would be happy to sit down and talk!
